The desire to observe the world around me and create has always been with me. I have never lost my intrinsic sense of curiosity from which stems my desire to know the workings of anything, to discover the multiple facets of a scene, and to observe details of what is usually overlooked as being ‘common’. Photography is a passion of mine that enables me to capture the moments that made me smile or gasp in wonder.
There have always been people of the opinion that photography is not an art form. I strongly believe it’s as much an art form as any other in which the artist uses various media to express their vision of reality. Today, with technology blending so many types of traditional art fields, it is impossible to deny that photography too, is a very versatile and creative medium for artistic expression.
An art professor I knew, instilled in his students a philosophy regarding the capturing of nature in their art. He said “…leave nature just as it is; it’s already perfect.” There is sufficient beauty and wonder around us that we do not need to create it in post-processing.
I have often been asked “What subjects do I photograph?” The short answer is, anything I find interesting. While I see my surroundings for what they are, I also envision how the light, shadow, shapes and colours would look through the lens. I basically conceive the photograph before I have taken it.
I have always loved nature from its grandiose scale that puts life into perspective, to the perfection of the smallest of details on which everything is built. Today’s hectic pace of modern life often leaves nature’s superb, fleeting scenes unobserved. My photographs are a way to try and preserve those moments, regardless of the subjects’ scales or scopes.
Another fascination is with architecture. I look at what people have painstakingly created and built, but I look with a focus towards capturing the subjects’ details and perspectives from uncommon angles.
I have photographed for as long as I can remember, and showing my photographs to the public has left me ecstatic about the wonderful feedback I receive.
